Music to my Ears

Music is a big part of my life as well as the lives of my children. It has the ability to transform my mood, inspire my soul, and helps me get through plenty of long drives and scrubbing of toilets.

I dont clean without music. I dont drive my kids to school without music. I dont cook without music. I firmly believe in the benefits of living your life with a soundtrack playing in the background. Last night we had tacos and my kids and I ate happily with our hips wiggling away to Latin music.

Howard Lee Naylor is a talented Singer Song-writer and Performer living in Abbotsford. He is engaged to a lovely woman named Diane. I will be shooting their wedding this summer in rural Abbotsford.

Howards love for creating and performing music will be incorporated into their wedding day and I am sure it will create an even more memorable day for both Diane and their guests. In fact it sounds like the event will be a very fun and enjoyable day for all. I am looking forward to being a part of it.

Howard has spent over 12 years learning his craft while living in Los Angeles and Nashville and now he is working on the completion of a new album. The title in progress is called, "Somehow I Grew." I did a shoot with Howard in Chilliwack recently. The shots will be used in his promotional tools that will accompany the new album. Keep an ear open for upcoming local performances by Howard Lee Naylor.

Ampersands & Much More

Props props and more props! I have props on the brain and so do a lot of other photographers. Mustaches on a stick, oversized glasses, thought bubbles... Props can tell you a story, add an element of surprise and sometimes help your clients to relax and have fun.

Having your photo taken is supposed to be fun. Gone are the days of  portraits that require unnatural looking poses and the holding of exaggerated facial expressions. Here are the days of having fun with your clients and encouraging actual emotions that are captured in a moment - that tell us more than ever before.

Here is an intangible sign that I never leave home without - the Ampersand. I didnt know it was called an ampersand until I told my father, a creator or all sorts of things, that I really would like one! Now I have one and I have a bunch of ideas for its use in future shoots.

He just happens to have built a machine and a business that can take any visual idea and make it into reality. The sky is the limit (or maybe just your back pocket), creative or functional and out of almost any kind of material - he can make it.

Using a CNC machine and a process that I cant wrap my head around he is able to create just about anything, big or small. Check it out for yourself at Salt Spring CNC http://www.saltspringcnc.com/index.html  Be careful because it might just get those wheels a turning...

Spring is finally here - which means Love is in the air.

Love is no longer resting near living-room fireplaces and snuggling under layers of quilted duvets. Love is with us in the arrival of the Spring air - amongst the sweet chirping of birds and the awakening of neighbourhood lawn mowers.

Even now when I think of the arrival of Spring I think of the childhood classic, Disney's Bambi. Like the colorful cartoon characters in Bambi, by Thumper's defintion, Jessica and Darryl  are definately - twittterpated.  Boy - I love that word.

Spring also means engagments and the planning of Summer Weddings. Spring means the planting of seeds and the all the anticipation that follows.

New beginnings and fresh starts pollinate our thoughts and our hearts as we eagerly anticipate the upcoming warmer months, with Fall and Winter merly occupying our memories.

This is my shoot with the twitterpated couple Jessica and Darryl, whose wedding I will be photography this July. We shot at the old Chilliwack City Hall and one of my favorite spots in Chilliwack, Island 22.

Thank you Jessica and Darryl for allowing me to document these moments leading up to your special day. You both made my job super easy. You are a beautiful couple who are obviously very in love. Congratulations!

People And Places We Love

I was really looking forward to getting some beautiful shots during our visit to the inspiring community of Salt Spring Island. That is where my dad and step-mom have a beautiful piece of property - where they live, work hard, love and play.

While we were there we saw 22 baby ducks hatch, witnessed a surprising Spring snowfall, roasted marshmallows, collected dozens of eggs and did many other enjoyable things. I feel so lucky that my children have the opportunity to participate in the farm life that my dad and Donna have created at their home on Salt Spring Island. Thanks dad! Thanks Donna!

In life the focus is mostly on the people in our lives...which is what me and my camera focused on while we were there. My subjects were my family who have to put up with not only my corny jokes but also a camera in their face.

This is my adorable step-sister Shara. She says she cant take a good photo. I didnt think that was true before and I definately dont think she can say that now! Look at those cute freckles - totally gorgeous!

This is my step-brother Colin and his lovely girlfriend Hannah. They are so cute together. I have never seen Colin so happy. They are very sweet together...just look and see for yourselves.
